SLUDGE THICKENING
Waste sludge thickening is a process carried out in wastewater treatment to reduce the volume of sludge produced and facilitate its handling and final disposal.
The main objective of sludge thickening is to increase the concentration of solids in the waste sludge, which reduces the total volume of the sludge and therefore the amount of water that needs to be treated and disposed of.

In the thickener, the waste sludge is agitated and held still for a period of time, allowing the solids to settle to the bottom of the tank.
The thickened sludge is collected at the bottom of the tank and disposed of, while excess water is discharged from the tank and directed to the next stage of the wastewater treatment process.
